Job Description

-

Financial Reporting & Analysis:
– Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports and statements.
– Analyse financial data and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner.
– Oversee all financial accounting for the law firm and a few semi-active companies
– Coordinate and lead the annual audit process.

Budget Development & Monitoring:
– Collaborate with senior leadership and heads of departments to create and implement annual budgets.
– Monitor and report on financial performance against the budget.
– Evaluate cost reduction opportunities.
– Recommend improvements as necessary.

Cash Flow Management:
– Oversee the firm’s cash flow, ensuring liquidity for operations.
– Manage and maximise returns on idle funds.

Regulatory Compliance:
– Ensure that the firm meets all local financial and tax regulations. This includes accurate and timely tax filings and payments.
– Keep up to date with legal requirements regarding financial operations for legal firms.

Strategic Financial Planning:
– Participate in long-term financial planning, risk management, and investment strategies to support the firm’s growth and sustainability.

Process Improvement & Automation:
– Periodically review and update the finance framework when necessary, including developing and implementing new finance policies and procedures.
– Initiate and manage finance automation projects to improve finance department workflow and efficiency.

Team Leadership:
– Mentor and lead the finance team, ensuring timely and accurate reporting, as well as
continuous professional development.
– Provide education and training sessions when necessary to ensure the team is utilising the most up-to-date financial management techniques and tools.
– Set goals and objectives for team members.
– Conduct periodical performance reviews with team members

Requirements

-

– Bachelor’s degree in Finance and/or Accounting. A professional qualification such as ACCA, MIA, CPA, or CIMA would be advantageous.
– A minimum of 8 – 10 years of professional experience in financial management, preferably within the legal or professional services sector in Malaysia.
– Familiar with various regulations, including but not limited to the Sales and Service Tax Act 2018, Partnership Act 1961, and Income Tax Act 1967;
– Familiar with using Google Workspace (ie. Google Sheets, Google Docs, Google Forms, Google Chat etc.)
– Able to work and effectively communicate with Partners and Practice Area Leads.
– Strong analytical, strategic planning, problem-solving and leadership skills.
– Experienced in leading and managing a team.
– Experienced in leading finance automation projects.
– Excellent command of both written and spoken English and Malay. Knowledge of other languages is a plus.
– Able to adapt and work in a fast-paced environment, under pressure, and meet deadlines.
– Dynamic and enterprising self-starter with excellent collaborative skills, who is independent, and willing to be hands-on.
– Prior working experience in a start-up environment can be a plus.
